When Mutual of Omaha set out to build a successful diversity, equity and inclusion strategy, they knew it had to start from the top-down.

Their mission was clear: “to build a corporate culture that respects and values the unique strengths and cultural differences of our associates, customers and the community.” 

Bringing this mission to life meant re-imagining the way they recruit, and implementing these key strategies:  

  • Requiring a diverse slate of candidates to mitigate similarity bias 
  • Building interview panels and candidate questions that demonstrate diversity of thought 
  • Regularly reviewing candidate pools for diversity – and conducting diversity sourcing where necessary 
  • Supporting an employee resource group to help deliver on their commitment to DE&I
