Best Practice Career Website tips

Make it as easy as possible for visitors to your website to become potential employees.

Have a careers link visible on the home page, or at least within one click in an easy to locate place such as 'About Us'

Use easy navigation throughout the careers site. Information should include:

Career opportunities make it clear:

- Where to search for jobs

- How to apply

  • What the application process entails and expected timeframes
  • Graduate opportunities - For entry level candidates, show them:
  • Which job titles match their degree
  • Likely career paths
  • Dates your company will come to campus for interviews
  • How well suited they are
  • Company overview
  • Company culture - List profiles of real employees with similar backgrounds
  • What it takes to succeed at your company
  • Diversity
  • Fast Facts about your company
  • Benefits / Awards
  • FAQs
  • Interview tips
  • Contact details

Do

  • Give accurate information
  • Target your desired candidates
  • Compare your firm to others
  • Write good job descriptions
  • Make sure your company website comes up in the first 3 pages of a search engine
  • Measure internet visits for the navigational flow and adjust your site accordingly

Don't

  • Have jobs listed by a job board sitting within your careers site - Candidates who come to specifically to your site will then easily be able to look at jobs listed by your competitors

Other hints

Studies show 1/3 of hires come from within  let current employees know that they are targeted - Post internal positions on your website (this also shows potential candidates that there is career development)

Let employee referrals know they will be treated differently (they are assumed to already have a cultural fit and thus be more suitable candidates)

Limited only by your imagination, PageUp survey is a versatile data collection tool allowing users to create, edit, archive, and extract the results of:

  • Surveys
  • Questionnaires
  • Feedback form
  • Entry forms
  • Market research

The easy to use survey form builder lets you create your own questions with drop down select lists, check boxes and free text fields. After a survey is created, a unique link or URL is generated which survey respondents need to visit in order to complete the survey. You can send this link to respondents via email, or put a link on a website. The surveys are completely anonymous and can be branded with your corporate logo. Results can then be extracted into an excel file, from which graphs and charts can be created.
